March 30, 2015: It was a rainy early Monday morning in Washington, DC. After a morning workout, Spencer was about to head to his car when he crossed paths with a handsome stranger – Dane – stepping out the door of the same gym. As luck would have it, the two were headed in the same direction. Spencer noticed that Dane wasn’t carrying an umbrella. He acted quickly: “Do you want to get under my umbrella?” 

Dane eagerly accepted. He had noticed Spencer in the gym earlier that morning – Who is that guy? – and had wanted to invite him to coffee (which, as it turns out, Dane doesn't drink). So the two set out, walking and talking in the rain, excited by the new acquaintance but unaware of where it would take them. 

A few exchanges online led to their first date, at Shaw’s Tavern. That one date led to two; two led to three years as a couple, years of joy and growth and belief in a beautiful future together. 

April 6, 2018: It was a spectacular evening in the Dominican Republic. The two men stood atop a castle as the sun set over the horizon, Dane dropped to one knee and proposed. Spencer said “Yes."

Their journey together has taken Dane and Spencer to several European countries and Caribbean islands, with countless hours of laughing, loving and learning from each other along the way. With their pups, Tuxedo and BowTie, they are ready to embark on the next stage of life as a happy family of musketeers.
